Kano: Court orders closure of hotels over lock-down violation

Kano state Mobile Court No 5 has ordered the closure of two hotel buildings for violating the COVID-19 lockdown order in the state.

The court headed by Magistrate Aminu Gabari issued a consequential order directing that Mozida Hotel at No-Man’s-Land and Royal Tropicana Hotel situated along Zungeru road should be sealed off for hosting night club activities during the lockdown period.

The police had arraigned 50 persons before the court on Saturday and the prosecution told the court that they were apprehended by the police at the premises of the two hotels where they had indulged in social gatherings.

The 50 violators all admitted committing the offence and the court ruled that they should each pay N20, 000 as fine.

The court further ruled the violators were to observe two months’ community service tagged ‘Keep Kano Clean’ by sweeping major streets in Kano metropolis.

Magistrate Gabari said those who fail to pay the fine as handed by the court are to carry out eight months’ community service by sweeping all the major streets in the state

They are to execute the sentence during the lockdown free days.

The judge then issued a consequential order sealing Mozida Hotel and Royal Tropicana Hotel for allowing the use of their premises to infringe the lockdown order.

The hotels are to remain sealed for six months.
